New Patient Visit – 1 1/2 to 2 hour interview
This is your time to tell your story. Dr. Schikowitz will listen and encourage you to talk about the details of your medical symptoms and/or conditions, as well as clarify aspects of your past medical history, family medical history, and general daily life in a safe and relaxed medical environment. He will take a full medical history including additional questions related to diet, lifestyle and emotional health. Please bring in any prescription medications, over the counter drugs and/or vitamins and supplements that you are currently taking, as well as well as any recent labs you have had done (within the last two years). He may perform evaluative procedures to further learn about your medical health. Dr. Schikowitz may, or may not, recommend a therapeutic protocol during the first visit, for occasionally, additional information and investigation is necessary prior to making a sound evaluation and plan.
Established Patient Visits– 20 to 60 minute follow-up visit
Return office visits serve several purposes. They can include any or all of the following:
- Review results with Dr. Schikowitz , do any follow-up information gathering, and work together to develop a more comprehensive therapeutic strategy.
- Case management and further investigative strategies.
- Monitoring a person’s progress in the healing journey.
- Fine-tuning of individualized recommendations.
- Hands-on therapies like naturopathic manipulation, acupuncture, tui na (Chinese massage), and/or hydrotherapy.
- Addressing new issues or acute conditions.
Acute New Patient Visits– 40 to 60 minute visit
Patients with uncomplicated, acute conditions are welcome to make an appointment for treatment without the full new patient visit. Some examples of acute conditions: pulling your back out, spraining an ankle, the common cold, etc. If patients decide they would like to see the doctors for ongoing issues they should schedule a thorough new patient visit.
Smoking Cessation Protocol- One 60 minute interview, and five 30-minute visits
This protocol is $200 and is paid for in advance. There must be an honest willingness to quit smoking. Our results have been quite promising. Nevertheless, there are no refunds for visits not used or if the patient returns to cigarette use. Treatments focus on education, acupuncture and herbs to enhance the detoxification process while markedly reducing cravings. The visits are preparatory steps that make actually quitting relatively easy.

A sliding scale is available for those who can prove financial hardship. Cash , Visa, Mastercard, and personal checks are acceptable.
Home Visits
Dr. Schikowitz is willing to make home visits if you are unable to come to the doctor’s office. Please call to make special arrangements. Price will vary based on travel time.
Phone Consultations
For simple follow-up and refill discussions there will be no charge. Phone consultations that require assessment or therapeutic decision making will be charged $20 per phone consultation. Consultations exceeding 30 minutes will be charged the standard return visit rate.
Insurance
Insurance is not accepted at this time. Nevertheless, we are happy to provide you with a practitioner statement to send to your provider in attempt for reimbursement. For many folks, “out of pocket” health care is a write off; inquire with your accountant.
48-Hour Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel this appointment, please call 72 hours in advance. Barring emergencies, there will be a $100 charge for missed new patient appointments and a $50 charge for return appointments that are not cancelled 48 hours in advance.
Dr. Schikowitz enjoys collegial relationships with many neighborhood healthcare practitioners, including primary care physicians, gynecologists, obstetricians, chiropractors, psychotherapists, pediatricians and oncologists. He will refer accordingly and consult with your existing health care providers when necessary.
